Christine Troyer became interested in painting during her mid twenties. For a short time, she did rosemaling and decorative painting before starting a career as a rural carrier for the postal service. She was surrounded a good portion of the day by outdoor light, seasonal changes and nature's beauty. Wanting to express what she was experiencing, she began a journey of learning. She choose pastel as her medium. It had vibrancy and zest. It would patiently wait for her to make friends when time allowed.
